UAE PGA team returns empty handed from International Teams Championship

15th Nov 09 at 01:00pm

UAE Professional Golfers Simon Payne from Tower Links Golf Club, Richard Sheridan of Al Badia Golf Club and Jebel Ali Golf Resort's Stuart Fee landed without the trophy from the Glenmuir and Calidona sponsored PGA's of Europe International Teams Golf Championship, held at Roda Golf and Beach Resort in Spain over the weekend, they did however bring with them revitalised direction and determination.

Competing in the 24-strong team event, alongside professionals from Croatia to Austria to England, the UAE team finished with a total of 1-over, sliding them into 13th place overall. After a strong finish on day one the team of Payne, Sheridan and Fee faltered on day 2 carding a 2-over par, with day's 3 and 4 results both producing an even-par finish.

Payne played superbly throughout the event finishing under-par after each round, rewarding him with an over-all finish of 10-under par and a spot within the top 5 individual scores.

"We were tied for 2nd place at 1-under par at the end of day one and went backwards over the following days" said Simon Payne, member of the UAE team. "The weather was perfect for the last 3 days, unfortunately our game, collectively, was not strong enough to hold our competitors at bay and we are very disappointed not to have finished in the top 10". "We appreciate the support of the PGA, our Patrons of Al Naboodah, Acuma Wealth Management, Auriga and TNT, as well as ProSports International for sponsoring our team-uniforms, and we are determined to better this finish in the 2010 event" he added.

Finishing with 16-under, leading by 3 strokes on their closest competitor, Wales walked away with the 2009 PGA's of Europe International Team Championship title.
