The Dubai Golf Trophy is tantalizingly poised after the opening four-ball and foursome matches with the Amateur and Professional Teams sharing the 16 points on offer, 8-8.

The morning four-ball matches witnessed the amateur team, led by team captain Steve Kelly, take a one-point lead 4.5 to 3.5. Joel Neale and Khalid Yousuf got them off to the perfect start with a 3&2 victory over Simon Payne and Craig Martin. But the last match of the morning produced the best golf of the day with Matthew Turner and Sean Thornberry clashing with Alan Mackenzie and Ross McArthur. Turner, who landed in Dubai from the UK an hour before he pegged it up, managed to birdie five of the opening seven holes of the Wadi by Faldo Course. However this was matched by four birdies from Mackenzie to keep the contest alive. The tie went to the last with Turner recording a safe par to take the tie by one hole.

The come back of the morning saw Jamie Wood and Stuart Fee halve their match having been dormie 3 down to Eric Hesson and Ariel Ignacio.

The afternoon tougher alternate shot foursome format seemed to favor the Professional outfit and under the captaincy of Elliott Gray were able to square the match following a 4.5 – 3.5 victory.

Stephen Hubner & Richard Sheridan and Nick Oakley & James Bowring followed their morning success by winning their afternoon encounter. Turner and Thornberry kept their one hundred percent record by triumphing over Greg Holmes & Justin Parsons.

The 16 singles matches get under way tomorrow at 11:15 with the prestigious Trophy in the balance, the professionals will be motivated by their 10-point loss last year in what promises to be an exciting days golf over the Nick Faldo designed immaculate Wadi course.
